Schools who provide adult learning to parents will be eligible for the £30 million funding the Government has pledged to get one million digitally and socially excluded people online by the end of 2012.
The Government’s grass roots initiative is part of the ‘Smarter Government’ report that was issued in December 2009. The Government has confirmed that 75% of the £30 million funding will go directly to ICT delivery and support centres to help the digitally and socially excluded use government websites and online services and enable them to become confident internet users. The remainder will be used to support new technology platforms and administer the grant process.
Applications for funding are open now. Applications are requested from digital inclusion providers, including schools who offer adult learning, who meet the funding criteria and is willing to become a member of the network to deliver its funded project. Membership has been instigated to administrate and monitor the funding proces.
